A friendly, good-humored person, I enjoy computing and assembling computers from parts. Since buying a BBC micro I have learned many word processing, database and spreadsheet packages. The most modern versions I have experience of are: Word 97, Word 6, dBase III, MS Works (3), Excel 5, Power Point 2, Word Perfect 5.1, Internet Explorer 4 & 5, Outlook Express 5, Front Page Express. I have used Front Page as the HTML editor for my personal website (which you are looking at) as well as my local community website, which I maintain.
I enjoy driving and have held my driving license, without endorsement, since passing my test in January 1989. On occasions I have driven long distances to visit friends (E.g. Truro & Carlisle), which has involved planning and costing the route and gauging my breaks on the journey. Although a non-smoker myself, I live with smokers, so I am quite understanding.
Outside of computers I am interested in amateur dramatics and have appeared in four productions for our local community company. I have also acted as stage manager on two occasions and obtained props and arranged the hire of lighting. Other creative interests include writing short stories and songs. I am interested in historical re-enactment, being the secretary and herald of a small medieval society, which involves arranging meetings, distributing minutes, setting the rules of precedence and controlling medieval speeches. I also enjoy reading and watching science fiction, and have helped to run events at science fiction conventions, such as games, charity auctions and quizzes. I enjoy 10-pin bowling, pool, snooker, tennis, as well as watching these sports, Formula One and other motor sports.
